Global Students in Jinan Trace the Yellow River's Legacy and Explore Jinan's New Landscape Together

In the golden autumn, the second “Communication Via Springs” Chinese Culture Experience Camp was successfully held in Jinan. Centered around the theme "The Surging Yellow River, Creating a Bright Future," the event was organized by Jinan Education Bureau. It brought together approximately 50 teachers and students from overseas, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who are currently studying in Jinan, offering them an immersive journey that blended Yellow River culture with modern innovation.

The opening ceremony took place at the Jinan Yellow River Culture Exhibition Center. Attendees included officials from the United Front Work Department, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, Taiwan Affairs Office, Foreign Affairs Office of  the Jinan Municipal People's Government, as well as district-level education bureaus. Mr. Ma Xindong, chief inspector of Jinan Education Bureau, delivered a speech encouraging students to deeply engage with the rich heritage of the Yellow River and Jinan’s dynamic urban development through hands-on experiences, fostering cross-cultural understanding and friendship. Ellie Lyv, a student representative from Thomas International School, shared her excitement about exploring the Yellow River’s cultural significance and Jinan’s developmental achievements. The ceremony also featured a symbolic passing of the camp flag from Zheng Yunshu, a representative from the first camp, to David Zhou, representing this year’s participants, signifying cultural continuity and enduring friendship. The event was officially launched with a laser ball activation by leaders and student representatives.

At the Yellow River Culture Exhibition Center, participants gained a systematic understanding of the river’s natural history, civilization evolution, and flood-control achievements through historical materials and interactive technology, deepening their appreciation of the Yellow River spirit—unity, pragmatism, pioneering, and dedication. At the China Railway 14th Bureau Group Corporation Limited’s Large Shield Tunneling Center, they observed cutting-edge construction technology behind the “First Tunnel Under the Yellow River,” marveling at China’s engineering excellence. In the afternoon, the group visited the  Urban Exhibition Hall in Jinan Start-up Area for Growth Drivers Transformation and Yinfeng Biotech Park. Through scale models, scientific demonstrations, and an experiment in fish resuscitation using liquid nitrogen, they gained firsthand insight into Jinan’s innovative practice in high-quality development and life science.

Guided by the dual themes of “Yellow River Cultural Heritage” and “New Jinan Development,” the camp’s well-designed activities effectively strengthened cultural identity and emotional connection among young participants from abroad, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. It put youthful vitality into cultural exchange and presented a authentic, multidimensional image of contemporary China.
